One of the popular Alor Setar food outlet joint - Noodle History 尹面之家 has arrived in Penang at New World Park. I have long known Noodle History's existence since my frequent work trip to Alor Setar in 2014, and in fact was slightly excited over Noodle History's venture into Penang. The honey barbecued char siew, chicken, and the lard on noodles here are things we really anticipating, but the noodles here are less exciting compared to conventional wantan mee in Pennag.
The outlet in Penang has proper setting with air-conditioning, which justified its higher price tag here. A conventional plate of Signature BBQ Pork Wantan Mee here cost RM 8.90. However, the restaurant has introduced a package for 2 - 2 bowl of noodles, 1 plate of char siew OR chicken, 1 vegetable and 2 drinks for RM 29.90, which is a real bargain.
Although the egg noodles here are al-dente in texture, I still prefer the conventional way of enjoying the noodles with dark soy sauce over light soy sauce (which is the choice here). However, the pork lard floating around the noodles are something I will be looking for. These pork lards are doing an amazing job in giving a jab of fine taste to the noodles.
The honey barbecued char siew here is almighty in taste. Each piece has a bigger portion of fat meat, then well coated with its signature sauce, rendering the char siew here superb in taste. One will regret if never order the extra char siew plate, as the char siew taste is somehow different compared to those serve with the noodles.
Anyhow, I still feel the original stall near the flyover in Alor Setar serves the best honey barbecued char siew.
