For years, I have been going to either Georgetown or Bayan Baru vicinity to enjoy dim sum as breakfast on weekends. However in recent years, more dim sum outlets are sprouting in Jelutong area and the latest addition is Cui Xiang Lou Dim Sum (翠香楼点心) near to Jalan Perak morning market. The restaurant has 2 areas for dining, an outdoor area and an air-conditioned indoor area. Personally, we preferred the outdoor area due to better lighting and not so cramp. As for the menu, 翠香楼点心 is serving the conventional selections of dim sum, ranging from Siu Mai, Har Mai, Har Gao, egg tarts, Char Siew Pao and a few more you can name. They also offer a range of stir-fried noodles. Well, as much as we appreciated another neighbourhood dim sum restaurant, the dim sum did not impress and we find no reason for a returning visit.
At 翠香楼点心, all dim sums are displayed at the counter and you are to go to counter to order your desired dim sum. Should you have certain preferences, you may ask the crew to check its availability. We tried a few dim sum here and here is our verdict:
Siu Mai & Har Mai - a tad salty and not really having the nice meaty taste
Egg Tarts - not impressive, lacking of nice custard and crust was thick
Har Gao - dry and not exhibiting decent prawn flavour
Char Siew Pao - not bad
Yam Puffs - normal
Lotus Seed Dim Sum - lack the aroma of lotus seed.
Overall, nothing much really impressive here and we rather travel a distance away to enjoy bettter dim sum. As for the price, it is the standard dim sum price.
