Xii Chan is a new eatery in Kampung Malabar that offers simple, no-frills yet quality Western food, ranging from chicken chop, tilapia fish, choices of spaghetti, mix grilled and salmon. It is a good place to get a treat should you crave for western dishes or looking for a lunch fix, as the menu offers affordable ala carte dishes starting from RM 13.90, while a set lunch consists of mushroom soup & lemon tea is available from RM 18.80. Not too bad for an air-conditioned setting though seat may be limited here.
The Grilled Chicken Cordon Bleu (RM 16.90) we ordered did not disappoint. We could taste the distinctive flavour of each layer, starting from the nicely grilled chicken, then to the stuffed chicken ham and sliced cheese. Then, the usage of creamy cheese sauce topping the grilled chicken cordon blue further enhanced its taste by rendering a sleek and rich sensation. Personally, we felt the quality even surpass some cafes that offers similar dish in a higher price tag.
Another dish we tried - Salmon Butter Cream (RM 25.90) is okay. The fish fits its description of fresh salmon with flaky flesh and no faulty smell. However, if the butter cream sauce is richer in taste, perhaps with a tad more spices then it would have been better. Overall, it is an above average dish.
Overall, Xii Chan is a decent place to grab some nice Western dishes should you feel to give a skip to conventional Penang delights sometimes.
