Modern Asia Kitchen 壹丰庭 is a relatively new restaurant located in De View Hotel in Air Itam Penang to enjoy dim sum. Unlike traditional dim sum house, Moder Asia Kitchen has an air-conditioned and neat environment. The dim sum options here are rather limited, but it is well compensated with other options such as stir-fried noodles. Be prepared for a long waiting time (we were being communicated the expected waiting time is 1 hour even though there were hardly any crowd, and we eavesdroped the neighbouring patrons were complaining for waiting up to an hour), though we were lucky to have our food served within 20 minutes. Nevertheless, the dim sum here is good albeit price is relatively higher.
We came here for a brunch around 12.30pm and about half of the dim sum options were sold out. Constrained by the options, we had Siu Mai (RM 7.90), Custard Bun with Salted Egg (RM 8.90) and Char Siew Pao (RM 6.90). The taste were good but the we thought the star of the day was the Char Koay Kak (RM 9.90). We noticed there were handful of yellow onions present in the koay kak, which is interesting. In terms of taste, the chef did well by mixing the al-dente raddish cakes with semi-fluid egg, and the aroma was enticing. The Char Koay Kak here may top the list of best Char Koay Kak we had in Penang.
As we were limited by the dim sum options, we had to order another dish to ensure we did not leave here in a hunger state. We had a Braised Hor Fun Black Bean (RM 16.90). Again, we noticed presence of capsicum, which is a rather odd ingredient in hor fun. The overall taste was alright, and this is our first times having black bean in hor fun though.
Overall, Modern Asia Kitchen is a decent place to enjoy good dim sum. You can park at the hotel (per entry RM 3, subsequent hour RM 1) but parking by the roadside is a good choice too.
