sumptous hawker food and some stalls have even made to the stage of
international arena. A simple search in the Internet on best Penang hawker food
will yield you dozens of recommendations, and today we are sharing you 5 underrated
Penang hawker food that deserve a try. These 5 hawker food are off from the
tourist trails, so you are likely to skip the beeline queue but some of them
are located off the prominent spots. Good thing is these hawker food are listed
on foodpanda, so you may order them via foodpanda and have
it delivered to your doorstep!
1. Bak Kut Teh - Khoon Klang Bak Kut Teh
Bak Kut Teh may not be the most popular dish in Penang but most Penangites have a special affection toward this dish, and we particularly crave for it during raining days. One of a good place to savour a bowl of piping hot Bak Kut Teh will be Khoon Klang Bak Kut Teh in Jelutong, which has been operating for years. The eatery also serves dry version of Bak Kut Teh which offers a more stimulating and piquant taste. Even though we ordered via
foodpanda delivery, the Bak Kut Teh still piping hot when served to us!
2. Char Koay Teow - Sin Hwa Char Koay Teow
All Penangites are proud of Char
Koay Teow, and some even exaggerated that you shall not find any subpar Char
Koay Teow in Penang. Whenever we feel like getting a Char Koay Teow fixing, we
would go for Sin Hwa Char Koay Teow.
The young chap manning the hawker fries a decent plate of Char Koay Teow
brimming with wok-hei, then
topped it with a few pieces of fresh prawns.
3. Nasi Kandar - Nasi Kandar Pokok Ketapang
Penang is never short of good Nasi
Kandar stalls and each of them has their own forte. However, one of them has
been under the radar for some time - Nasi
Kandar Pokok Ketapang. Good thing is the nasi kandar here is reasonably
priced, and the chef churns out incredibly delicious curry mixtures. The shop
also offers the other popular Malaysian dishes such as Mee Goreng, Roti Canai,
and you can even order a cup of nicely brewed teh tarik via foodpanda delivery!
4. Wan Tan Noodles - Ah Niu Wan Tan Mee
Wan Tan Mee has become our comfort
food lately. The concoction of dark soy sauce and sesame oil yield a sweet and
savoury flavour. While wantan mee stalls are ubiquitous, one of our favourite
goes to Ah Niu Wan Tan Mee. The
noodles are cooked to al-dente, then generously topped with barbecued pork
slices, dumplings and some pork lard, rendering an overall addictive
taste.
5. Mee Goreng - Mee Goreng Pitchay
A plate of Mee Goreng, which has
yellow noodles stir fried in a mixture of tomato ketchup, chilli paste and
seasoned with dark soy sauce is all-time Penangites favourite. There are a few
big names of Mee Goreng in Georgetown alone, but the modest Mee Goreng Pitchay
in Sungai Nibong deserves the accoldate too.
Mee Goreng Pitchay is popular among
the local community and the food court is always full of people. Therefore, why
not have a click in your phone and order Mee Goreng Pitchay via foodpanda? You
can skip the queue, and the quality is the same!
