Penang Autocity has a very interesting cafe - Kopi Chap Tekoh. The name sounds local and native, somehow suggesting it is a cafe that sells local brew coffee but it is a modern cafe co-sharing its space with a luxury car dealer. From the description, you will have the idea that Instagrammers would love to come here to take dozens of photogenic shops. Nevertheless, Kopi Chap Tekoh offers more than that. It is a place for coffee connoisseurs to enjoy quality coffee while indulging in the cozy cafe atmosphere. Interestingly, they offer some interesting coffee such as coffee mocktails.
We had troubles locating Kopi Chap Tekoh initially, not knowing it is a located within a car dealer shop and thought it has a standalone shop. After all, who would have thought there would be such a nice cafe inside a car dealer shop right?
Well, we even have to enter via the car dealer shop entrance in order to get to Kopi Chap Tekoh.
Kopi Chap Tekoh offers a small menu, primarily focus on its drinks and a few small bites that complement the coffee. As we are here for a quick lunch before checking into hotel, we try to look for food that offers more energy input.
Then we saw Oat Chicken Porridge (RM 12). The dish sounds odd as it incorporates oat into the porridge, then seasoned with sesame oil. The taste is alright, but somehow we felt the alternating texture of chewy oat and soft porridge did not work well. The sesame oil is a bit overwhelming too.
As we eat the porridge, the oat absorbs the water and thickens the porridge. Thankfully the cafe crew has pre-empt and helped us to add water to dilute the porridge.
On the other hand, the Classic Toast Chocolate (RM 15) is good and worth the 20 minutes waiting time. The French toast is nicely fried and has a bit of char, and drizzling the chocolate on top of the toast is a like giving a soul to the it. If you have time to spare at Kopi Chap Tekoh, do order this dish.
Meanwhile, the Mushroom Chicken Pie (RM 13) is ordinary.
Then there is this section of coffee that caught our attention - Mixology. They offer 4 different types of mixology, namely Geisha in Bandung, Matcha- M Yes, Espresson Yuzu Tonic and Kopi Limau Tonic.
We ordered Geisha in Bandung (RM 18), simply because we come across Geisha coffee which is highly sought due to its unique aroma with nice floral and sweet taste. Geisha in Bandung combines Yuri Matcha, Earl Grey Cold Brew, fresh lemon juice, Bandung and Lychee. The overall concontion is unique. We can feel a sense of nice coffee, along with some acidity and elusive tea scent.
If you are adventorous, then this section of mixology is worth exploring. Otherwise, you may order their usual coffee and enjoy it in the classic cups.
The Iced Chocolate (RM 13) here is good too. The taste of cocoa is nice and not to sweet.
