Biggy & The Ahli Kopi is one of the latest hipster cafe in Sungai Petani, Kedah and has attracted a large crowd since its inception. The cafe is strategically located in the heart of Sungai Petani along Jalan Patani and its popularity is so immense that I failed to find a seat during a weekday visit around 1.30pm, and the limited tables further complicated the other patrons to find a seat. While I agree the cafe is ideal for some Instagram photos with its wooden theme, the food here are average and more to fill your hungry stomach instead of a enjoyable meal.
I simply ordered Nasi Goreng Ahli Kopi (RM 15.90) as it name suggests it might be their signature dish. Personally, I felt it is another fried rice that you can have elsewhere albeit here is the luxury version that comes with a fried whole chicken thigh, an fried egg, a few small prawns, prawn crackers and a large portion of rice served with some sambal. Nothing spectacular about its taste and the fried chicken is rather dried too.
Another name that caught my attention was Kopi Jalan Patani (RM 7.50). The cafe seems like branding the food items to associate it with locals.
I realised the Biggy & The Ahli Kopi actually has second floor but wonder why they never use it to host more tables. The downstairs seem pretty crowded and the incoming crowd could not even find an empty table.
