Aburi Sushi, one of the restaurant brand under the umbrella of Edo Chi group that comprises of Edo Ichi, Haciban, Azuma, Sushi Zento) has established an outlet in Gurney Plaza basement in 2022. While Japanese food are pride of their sashimi, Aburi Sushi takes a slight different approach by offering "Aburi" ie flame grilled sushi. The menu features an extensive range of aburi sushi with different options of flavours, ranging from cod roe, truffle, garlic and lime. There are other food options such as donburi, yakinomo, soba, udon and sashimi too. It may be an alternative choice if you are looking for a Japanese restaurant in the town but the food is mediocre and nothing much to outshine the other Japanese food outlets.
The plate of Aburi Sushi Ninniku Moriawase (RM 30) comes with 7 types of sushi - light torched salmon, red tuna, scallop, cooked prawn, octopus, egg omelette and 2x salmon roll that topped with garlic miso mayonnaise. The torching of the sushi along with garlic miso mayonnaise did give a nice refreshing flavour.
If there are other selections of sushi you prefer other than the one mentioned in above platter, you can always order them individually.
One of our favourite whenever dining out at Edo Ichi group would be their Korokke, or better known as croquette. It is one of our daughter's favourite too.
We did realise Aburi Sushi offer more selections for their croquette. The usual pumpkin is not on the menu, but is being replaced with Hokkaido Cheese croquette, Hokkaido Cream Crab croquette and Hokkaido Corn croquette. Three pieces of Hokkaido Corn croquette comes at RM 17 and they taste decent.
Our favourite in Japanese restaurant is always the simple yet delicious Tori Katsu Don (RM 22) but the version here is lackluster. It lacks of seasoning and the rice somehow felt plain, perhaps due to lacking of sauce to coat it. We should have requested to have it with garlic fried rice for a better overall taste.
The Gyu Saaroin Amiyaki (RM 28), or better known as Grilled Australian Beef Sirloin with Yakiniku Sauce here is okay. The Yakiniku sauce is appetizing but the beef seems a little bit stiff.
It is notable that the dish is served along with a small bowl of salad to balance between fibre and meat intake.
