We realized our little one had been blinking her eyes unusually of late and we started to get worried. After all, vision is one of the most important sense and a correct diagnosis and treatment subsquently at the early stage is important. But the question is, where should we begin?
Then we learn that there is a kid friendly eyecare centre - Eye & Glasses Optometrist in Jalan Perak, as they recently established a Pediatric Eyecare Myopia Management Centre. Here are the reasons that we brought our kid for an eye checkup here.
1) A separate floor for catering entirely kid patients.
2) Kid-friendly optometrist who are extremely patient with kid.
3) Availability of full range of kid glasses and sunglasses.
4) Fun and interesting space themed wallpaper that made the kid amazed.
5) Affordable eye checking packages starting from RM 65.
I had a little bit of spare time during my work so I made a call to Eye & Glasses Optometrist and managed to get the appointment on the day itself, thankfully. When we reached there, the little one was cheerful and fascinated to see all the glasses in display and also the varieties of machines there.
The optometrist told us diligently it may be tough to conduct various eyes examination on kids younger than 2 years old, as she was still not able to listen to directions and cannot convey her messages yet. However, they will try her best to carry on the tests to arrive at diagnosis, which I am really thanfully to them for taking the extra miles.
True indeed, the little kid kept struggling during the procedure. She understood it was about checking her eyes but often her head away or could not stay long enough at the machine for detection. However, the optometrist in charge was patient enough to make extra efforts to keep the little one distracted when performing the procedures. He was also patient in making the repetitive procedures after fail to conduct the procedures properly after multiple attempts.
I could not remember exactly how many tests were conducted but probably there were 4-5 of them, including checking her eyesight readings, focus, and some others. Some procedures could not be conducted as needs a slightly more cooperation from the little one.
So exactly what was the diagnosis on her frequent eyes blinking?
Turned out her tears product was lesser than normal, and she suffered from slightly dry eyes. Therefore, she had to blink her eyes more often to lubricate her eyes.
And the culprit was too much television time! Well, she will watch about 45 minutes daily and she will request for it if we did not give. No time allocated for handphones or Ipad too. The optometrist recommended us to reduce, or even prevent totally her TV time. Then now she is on eye drop treatment.
Hopefully her eyes will be back to the normal soon.
Here are some pictures of the kid eyecare on level 2. Hardly we see any eyecare centre has 1 dedicated floor for kids and Eye & Glasses Optometrist really took extra miles in preparing for paediatric patients.
So, next challenge maybe on a dental checkup?
