Once a household cuisine prepared by our grandmothers for us Penangites, Nyonya cuisines have been gaining tractions and reached another greater heights, particularly when one of Nyonya restaurant in Penang even gained a Michelin-starred status. However, not many hotels in Penang serve Nyonya delights, rendering the halal version hard to sought.
Recently, The George Penang, a newly minted heritage in the heart of Georgetown launched Nyonya delights promotions, featuring the favourites such as Penang Nonya Style Jiu Hu Char, Penang Style Fried Assam King Prawns, Seabass with Nyonya Sauce, , Loh Bak and many more. You can have it at set of 4 pax (RM 138+), 6 pax (RM 350+), 8 pax (RM 460+) and 10 pax (RM 550+).

The set of 10 comes with 8 nice Nyonya dishes, and to begin with you can choose your choice of chicken to be either Claypot Curry Chicken with Potatoes or Penang Style Fried Chicken with Homemade Shrimp Paste.
As for seafood options, we were served Penang style fried Asam King prawns and Fried whole Seabass with special aromatic Nyonya sauce. These are exemplary dishes of how the chefs use fresh local herbs and spices to prepare these dishes, as you can taste the depth and complexity of the flavour.
Next up is the classic Nyonya dishes - Penang Nyonya Style "Jiu Hu Char", which is stir-fried Jicama with carrots, savoy cabbages, shredded dried cuttlefish and superior shitake mushrooms) and Loh Bak & Poh Piah. It is hard to find classic Jiu Hu Char outside of Penang hence it is a good opportunity for you to have a try on this dish.
