The 16th annual Penang Pink Ladies brunch, held at the Grand Ballroom of the Eastern and Oriental Hotel on 4th October 2024 from 10.30 am, had a colourful and fun theme of carnival! The 2024 Carnival for a Cause campaign, organised by Penang Pink Ladies, aims to raise funds for Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital and Penang Hospice Society to support individuals in our Penang community living with cancer. This fundraising event was a huge success, thanks to the dedication of organisers Tiina Luckins, Susie Macmillan and Jennifer Sheppard.
The morning kicked off with a mash up of carnival inspired songs by Mel Hitosis Raphenon supported by her fabulous dancers, which got everyone in the party mood.
The Grand Ballroom was filled with pink highlighted by splashes of colourful carnival inspired decor, setting the stage for an unforgettable brunch.
Guests indulged in a delicious brunch buffet before the packed programme of Penang Pink Ladies' fun and fundraising activities began. The event featured favourites such asthe fashion parade by Doublewoot and Amee Philips, choreographed by committee member, Diana Brown. Attendees also had the chance to participate in a first - an online silent auction offering exciting items,services and experiences; a tombola; raffle and a live auction featuring several spectacular prizes. DJ Stephanie kept the carnival vibe alive throughout the event, while Moe Nasrul, back by popular demand, served as the master of ceremonies.
Guest speaker from Hong Kong, educator and cancer survivor, Colleen Osborne, shared her personal journey of overcoming cancer and left the audience with an inspiring message -‘never forget how strong you are.’
Penang Pink Ladies extend their gratitude to their partner sponsors, including Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Amee Philips and Doublewoot whose significant contributions played a crucial role in the event's success. The organisation is also deeply thankful for the generous support received from Penang individuals and local businesses, reflecting the overwhelming support of the local community.
The Penang Pink Ladies remain committed to their mission of raising awareness and funds to support individuals in Penang challenged with cancer. To achieve this, they continue their community initiatives, one of which is School Pink Days. Penang schools have enthusiastically participated in this educational and fun pink activity, organising 'Wear Pink Days' and various fundraising initiatives.
The response and involvement from schools,students, and staff has been inspiring and School Pink Days will take place until the end of October. This year also marksthe Penang Pink Ladies’ inaugural 5km ‘Pink Walk for Cancer,’ which took place on 29 September 2024, starting and ending at Gurney Walk. More than 450 walkers participated wearing t-shirts with ‘Be Aware Show You Care’.
The final tally of funds raised for the 2024 Carnival for a Cause campaign will be announced at the end of the year, so stay tuned for this exciting update.
